In the local Hip Hop universe, Preto Gil's name is synonymous with dedication and overcoming. In a relaxed chat, the artist shared with us his experiences from his first steps in 2009 to the founding of the Lado Leste Crew studio, an initiative to make music production more accessible.

It was in 2009 that Preto Gil dove headfirst into the world of Hip Hop. “I met a guy who was working on a lyric and that’s where it all started,” he recalls. The partnership with this friend was the starting point for his musical trajectory.

With great determination, Preto Gil and his partner began writing together. The inspirations came from national rap classics, such as Racionais MC's, and also from local talents that shaped his artistic vision. "We wanted to show the reality we lived in, talk about the fight for resources and opportunities", he explains.

Over time, the idea of having our own space for production came up. They saved money, invested in equipment and even in classes to master the technique. “It was an intense learning process”, he comments.

Born and raised in Itinga/Lauro de Freitas, Preto Gil makes a living as a bricklayer and knows well the difficulties faced by the local community. "Here, the lack of available studios and high costs were major obstacles", he highlights. A track in a traditional studio could cost up to 300 reais, which limited access for many talents.

It was then that the idea of founding the Lado Leste Crew studio arose. An initiative with the aim of democratizing access to recording and music production in the region. "It's not about belittling anyone's work, it's about offering a more accessible alternative", he explains.

At Lado Leste Crew, the focus is on encouraging and supporting the local scene. "We don't charge a fortune, we record to give opportunities and value each person's talent", says Preto Gil with a smile.

Over the years, Preto Gil and his team continue to make a difference by providing local artists the chance to have their voices heard. The studio is not just a recording space, but a catalyst for dreams and opportunities, a true meeting point for culture and music in the Alto do Caíque community.

Preto Gil's journey is an inspiration for everyone who wants to overcome obstacles and create opportunities. Their commitment to community and art is a testament that talent and determination can change lives and open doors to a bright future.

His Brazilian musicality and bold interpretations won, in addition to a loyal audience, the praise of critics. As an interpreter, Erick worked with the groups Cesta Básica (PB), Mercedes Band (CE) and Grupo Etc and Tal (AL), already with the groups Sine Qua Non (PB) and Zaraquê Trio (RN) recorded albums where he also acted as composer.
