A typical case of tradition and ancestry awakened Mestre Artemio to rescue one of the most sublime and nostalgic traditions in our community.
His grandmother (now deceased) told him the stories of his father. She told of the late “Lindão” going out with friends in the tradition of São João knocking on her door. They went with musical instruments, always characterized (with a hat, tie, checkered shirt, some with a jacket, shorts, sometimes with the typical patches of June costumes, women in cheetah dresses, checkered) during the São João festivities (24 of June). Arriving at the door, they knocked and asked: Is St. John there? The positive answer, which usually happened, was a universal password that authorized people to enter singing, eating the typical foods of São João (corn cake, cornmeal, cassava, seasonal fruits, the ever-present peanuts, corn roasted on the fire and all the diversity of typical delicacies of the abundance of the time) and drinking especially the liqueur, which could not be missing.
It was a big party, in the middle of the typical atmosphere with bonfires in many doors, the forrós that took over many spaces where people danced for real.
There were couples formed on these occasions, her grandmother told them. Thus, in 2011 Mestre Artemio conceived and coordinated this work together with his friends Antonio Abreu, Marcos Ribeiro, Judson Cleber and Nino Santana. The first version in the rescue of this tradition bringing a batucada with a junino sambao, which was small, always with free participation. The event grew in subsequent years in such a way that it was impossible to enter the houses, leading to a necessary adjustment, with a banner that announced the game.
Artemio had the idea of taking a tour, with mandatory stops at five tents strategically set up in front of traditional family houses in the city, where people ate, drank and the musicians rested. The tents symbolically took the place of the houses. The demonstration took place until 2017 with the departure of the main private sponsor who maintained the operationalization of the stalls with food and beverages while the city hall offered the June charangas, without anything electronic. All this on the floor, all walking together.
Professor Gildásio , Professor Paranhos, Ápio Vinagre, Bedeu, Dona Badinha , Janjão , Velho do Cacete, Ari Batom, Gueu , Ishaias , Família Luz and many other friends who always participated, with the front commission of the dancers of the Bambolê Cultural Group.
The price to participate in the event is the donation of one kilo of food.
His Brazilian musicality and bold interpretations won, in addition to a loyal audience, the praise of critics. As an interpreter, Erick worked with the groups Cesta Básica (PB), Mercedes Band (CE) and Grupo Etc and Tal (AL), already with the groups Sine Qua Non (PB) and Zaraquê Trio (RN) recorded albums where he also acted as composer.
