Capoeira leadership in Lauro de Freitas. Leader of the Grupo Cultural de Capoeira Semente da Raça Negra, maintainer of the Semente do Amanhã project in Ipitanga. Born in São Paulo (9/30/1970), he says that at the age of seven he was seduced by the sight of a capoeira circle at the Campinas/SP bus station. A month later I was training and never stopped. Mestre there, when he arrived here in the humility that is peculiar to him, he sought local capoeira where he started from scratch until graduating as a master again. Today, he works every other day at the Gregório Pinto de Almeida Municipal School, where he is provisionally located, and at the Catholic Church of Divino Espírito Santo.

A lover of research, he doesn't just stop playing capoeira. It maintains a library with more than two thousand titles, about the origins, histories and personalities of capoeira.

He values institutions and in this regard he is the representative (DELEGATE) of the (ABPC) Brazilian Association of Capoeira Teachers, through which he intends to hold a meeting of literary personalities on the subject. Also at this point, Mestre Sombra is an advisor, representing the Chair of Popular Cultures in the Municipal Council of Culture of Lauro de Freitas.

He surprised the capoeira community when he announced his participation in the 2020 carnival with the Mestres da Ginga Capoeira Block, an opportunity in which he received the unconditional support of Mestre Tonho Matéria, who maintains a similar activity in Salvador, strengthening their friendship even more. Nobody understand. But he knows how to do it and does it.

The Covid-19 pandemic came to hamper all culture makers a lot and Master Sombra was very affected. “We had to stop the implementation of a partnership of our project with Parque Shopping Bahia, which is very beautiful. It was sad!" But he reinvented himself and makes use of social media to keep his work active, where he also disseminates every order of ideas and work. And there are not a few.

These circumstances also brought him closer to other recreational activities. Currently supports in partnership Municipal Fights Disability Movement (and elderly) of Lauro de Freitas, under the leadership of Josy Light in weekly meetings where virtually capoeira lessons minister, participating in other activities such as the Poetry Workshops Inclusive and of dance.

“What moves me most is to see a job that I dreamed, that I planned, being carried out”, says Sombra. “Seeing a couple who met in our space, got married, had a child, and now the three of them do capoeira here, is very beautiful” Mestre Sombra understands that there is a need to improve the organization of capoeiristas in the municipality of Lauro de Freitas. “It is necessary for people not to think about the immediate return on their activities. Realizing that participating in an event with no financial return, for example, does not mean that something was done for free. Participating, interacting, listening and relating is a cultural and learning return that most people do not realize, and this is regrettable!”

His Brazilian musicality and bold interpretations won, in addition to a loyal audience, the praise of critics. As an interpreter, Erick worked with the groups Cesta Básica (PB), Mercedes Band (CE) and Grupo Etc and Tal (AL), already with the groups Sine Qua Non (PB) and Zaraquê Trio (RN) recorded albums where he also acted as composer.
