A group of residents of the community Quingoma in Lauro de Freitas, Bahia, decided to rescue one of his traditions: the"samba de roda". In the community remnant quilombo, dance practice arose when men go out to fish and how thanks for the abundance, everyone gathered to dance the samba de roda in a very happy way, according to reports from the former resident of the quilombo, Ednalva dos Santos.
The group performs at parties and other events by Lauro de Freitas. The name “ Quingoma ” refers to an African ethnic group that settled on the coast of Bahia, samba de roda attracts visitors seeking to learn about its traditions, with the advancement of real estate construction in the region, residents had to resort to regularizing the certification of lands occupied by quilombolas for many generations.
The dance rehearsals take place at “Casa do Samba”, a cultural space in the quilombo where workshops are also offered. The group has also been an income generator for the quilombola community.
