Kota Alagunzo da Goméia, the name in Candomblé of Girlene de Santana Neves, was always encouraged by Mameto Kamurici (Mother Lúcia, her biological sister), who at a young age met Mestre Abdias in Pelourinho. Observing that he was weaving the coast cloth, Mameto was enchanted and knowing the importance of the coast cloth for Candomblé rituals, she already began to dream of bringing him to Terreiro São Jorge Filhos da Goméia, but everything has its time . from Terreiro São Jorge Filhos da Goméia and also the grandmother of Kota Alagunzo . Together with Raimundo (Tata Kasutemi ) from Bankoma who has already left us, he started several social actions to serve the community, the Bankoma's art-education project was born , especially for children. It started with capoeira, followed by percussion, dancing and then the coast cloth. Mestra Alagunzo da Goméia with three other saint-sisters went to the Instituto Mauá in Pelourinho to learn how to weave the cloth of the coast with teachers José and Zelito. With them, he learned to weave the Alaká cloth, as these pieces of African origin are also called.
Today, headquartered in the terreiro, it is the only weaving company that works with fine thread in the production of cloth from the coast, it is Kula Tecelagem. The production was initially sold only at Terreiro São Jorge Filhos da Goméia , after which it was sold over the internet. A piece 40 cm wide and 2 m takes 20 days (head cloth) to be completed, the coast cloth is 80 cm wide.
The coast cloth protects us from what comes from bad, from negative energies. We wrap and protect the chest and belly area. It also has the head cloth to protect the head. Mestra Alagunzo da Goméia says that "she ran for the need but this is the fight" and her great reference is undoubtedly Mameto Kamurici (Mother Lúcia), a great woman, always with words of encouragement, always pushing us forward, showing that she is It is necessary to fight to overcome barriers that cannot be seen with one's eyes, but which can be felt in the skin, in the job lines and in the pocket, also needs to be said.
Very important, according to the teacher, is the fact that the community adheres to the projects, such as a year-round production of the pieces, costumes and instruments used by the Bankoma Block in the carnival, including in Salvador, but then there is the parade in Portão also where we parade with our partners to our community. It is contagious. Two big parties.
She highlights the partnerships built by the late Tata Kasutemi and Mameto Kamurici , such as Mestras Aideê , Nicota (deceased) with the Terno de Reis, Mestre Paizinho with the Samba de Viola, among others.
Ancestry and spirituality are brought with the struggles to face prejudice, especially regarding the religiosity of African matrices. “People are bothered. We just maintain our culture, our religious ancestry. It is necessary to leave us to our practices, our customs, our culture”.
The strength of these women with whom I live and descend, Mameto Kamurici , Mãe Mirinha, my ancestors who fought for freedom, then against misery and prejudice, for recognition, for respect. It's a lot of grit. This moves me. Alagundo Account.
He arrived at Terreiro São Jorge Filhos da Goméia at Rua Queira Deus, Portão, Lauro de Freitas, at the age of 14 and has never left.
We're not going anywhere alone. We always carry our culture, but also our community. They have already performed here throughout the state of Bahia, also in São Paulo, Fortaleza, Recife, China, Portugal, Austria, Australia, among others. Alagunzo also says that he studied while completing a technical nursing course. His parents finished their studies in the first stage of elementary school, but it had quality. Unfortunately, teaching today is much inferior. She understands that it is essential to have a college as a result of market demand, there is no way. “For me it's better to know how to do it, to practice” but always encourages and gives strength to the children as well as to the members of the community, because I understand that college is also essential.
We received a space to make available the production of 150 terreiros in a store on Estrada do Coco, Loja Mauanda . Unfortunately, a gale destroyed the facilities that were ceded by the State Government of Bahia. We are now awaiting possible restructuring of a space to use these facilities.
His Brazilian musicality and bold interpretations won, in addition to a loyal audience, the praise of critics. As an interpreter, Erick worked with the groups Cesta Básica (PB), Mercedes Band (CE) and Grupo Etc and Tal (AL), already with the groups Sine Qua Non (PB) and Zaraquê Trio (RN) recorded albums where he also acted as composer.
