Coriolano Alberto Andrade de Oliveira Filho is an entrepreneur, educator by training and a lover of Lauro de Freitas. For three decades he managed the “Barraca da Gávea”. The tent is famous because, in addition to gastronomy, it has become a “culture point” bringing together intellectuals, journalists, community leaders, students, researchers, popular culture masters, teachers, businessmen and politicians. From this interaction, big projects that highlighted the beach tent and the people of the city are suggested. Coriolano took popular roots to the noble side of the city, breaking bourgeois paradigms and prejudices. Gávea was a kind of “Circo Voador” of the city with multicultural agendas, concerts, presentations by popular groups, exhibitions, sports practices, conferences and the increase in social projects that supported many people and institutions.
Coriolano was the director of a large security company located in Lauro de Freitas and because of his work he frequented the city. He got to know Vilas do Atlântico through friends. In those visits that he saw the Gávea space, his interest was so much that he did not think twice about changing his professional activity, and he was also looking for quality of life at 45 years of age. Then he decided to move his family permanently to Lauro de Freitas.
The son, Caio went to study at Colégio Apoio and his wife Vera continued as a Social Worker at Hospital Menandro de Farias. He was the second owner of Gávea, the first was Gilbert, who spent two or three years in charge of the tent. Coriolano had and put many ideas into practice in the innovative project. Thirty years ago Vilas do Atlântico was lacking in attractions and the community had to go to Salvador in search of fun. Thus, he envisioned an open field to work with seaside entertainment.
“Barraca da Gávea” has developed three lines of action: social, cultural and sports. On the social side, Gávea crossed borders and strengthened relations with the community, collaborating with society by supporting projects, participating in conferences and in the construction of public policies through the creation of councils in various segments, such as the environment, tourism, culture, social development , among others.
“Cori had to move the tent forward, but continued to observe the seas beyond the horizon, leveraging actions and projects”, comments journalist Márcio Wesley.
